Ameren Services, Inc. selects Lindsey Manufacturing’s next generation SMARTLINE Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) / Thermal Forecasting application
Implementation to augment transmission in Missouri and Illinois by providing congestion relief
Ameren Services, a well-respected leader in transmission development, has chosen Lindsey’s SMARTLINE dynamic line rating system to prove the value of a Next Generation dynamic line rating system in today’s transmission operations. Ameren will install SMARTLINE systems in Missouri and Illinois this fall as part of an evaluation in Ameren’s on-going grid resilience effort.
SMARTLINE Next Generation dynamic line rating addresses the shortcomings of first generation systems by the use of directly measured key parameters such as clearance-to-ground, rather than monitoring other parameters (such as tension or sag) and then estimating the related key parameter. One reason of selecting SMARTLINE is its use of self-contained and self-powered transmission line monitors (TLM) manufactured in the U.S. by Lindsey, a market leader in sensor products. The TLM includes load, temperature, and LIDAR sensors to directly collect the real-time data required to produce the line rating and send the data via satellite to a cloud-based or utility installed server running SMARTLINE.
Dynamic Line Rating technology will augment Ameren’s important transmission development plans in Missouri and Illinois by providing congestion relief. This will allow Ameren to prioritize and schedule new transmission lines to fit Ameren’s resource and scheduling requirements.
